Dr. Claire McPhee, DVM, MSPH, CHPV

Dr. Claire McPhee graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. She has been a practicing veterinarian in Bellingham for over 12 years. For the past 8 years, Dr. Claire has focused on Fear Free™ veterinary care in companion animals. Fear Free™ care emphasizes reducing fear, anxiety, and stress around the veterinary visit. Even with the best intentions, care in a hospital setting still creates some stress for our patients. For end-of-life care, providing services in their home environment is the most relaxed option for the pet and pet parent alike.

Dr. Claire has a passion to help improve comfort and connection for both pets and their caregivers during this vital time of life. Dr. Claire is the ONLY certified hospice and palliative care veterinarian in Whatcom County. This is the most advanced and comprehensive training for hospice and home euthanasia. End-of-life care decisions are complex, and they are an opportunity to honor this shared life with our companion. Making this transition smooth and peaceful is a gift to the patient and their family. In addition to Elite Fear Free™ certification, Dr. Claire has completed special training in best practices for euthanasia.

When not caring for animals, she and her family enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor adventures around the area.

The Pacific Madrona (madrone) tree is a beautiful species of tree native to the coastal pacific northwest. They thrive in our coastal environments, and can often be found clinging to the hillsides in relatively rocky conditions. Each summer, this unique evergreen tree sheds its bark in an act of renewal, just like our pets reach their time to move on to their next journey.
